Silhouettes is a film made entirely using the strength of 3D tools to create something outer worldly. We challenged ourselves to balance an authentic connection to reality, while adding layers of elements that delve deeper and offering a new perspective on how we relate to fashion and identity.

SILHOUETTES

Clarity is comfortable and brings a sense of control. Ambiguity, on the other hand, is marked by anxiety and threatens to tell us stories of our own shadow. Silhouettes became a playground for us to explore visual expressions between a clear state of mind and the chaotic internal self of our virtual muse Silo.



Silo’s silhouette symbolizes the boundary between the persona and the shadow, a border created by the norms of society. Silo shields his inner self from the judgmental eyes of the world, but as for us all, if the internal forces are suffocated they will find their way to the surface.

Visual idea & story

Start with a clear vision of our creative idea and story. Defining an aesthetic expression and message that resonated with us as a team. Created a framework to fall back to during the course of the project.

DIGITAL model creation

Custom character made using Human generator in Blender and custom sculpting. Hair made in Blender. Skull made in ZBrush.

DIGITAL garments creation

Jacket, trousers and mesh top made and simulated in CLO 3D.
Mesh top curve structure made in Houdini. Shoes made in ZBrush and Houdini.

Shading / texturing / lighting / rendering

Textures made with Substance Painter. Early look development made in Cycles Blender. Final Rendering done in Cinema4D using Redshift.

Visual effects / simulation

VFX created in Houdini, where we used everything from pyro, flip to custom simulations.

Rigging / animation

Keyframed animations made using Blender and Auto-Rig Pro with shape keys.
